Ultrasound
Ultrasound or Sonography produces pictures of the inside of the body using high-frequency sound waves. Ultrasound exams do not use ionizing radiation because ultrasound images are captured in real time, they can show structure and movement of the body’s internal organs, as well as blood flow through vessels. Advancements in Ultrasound technology include 3 dimensional (3D) and four (4D) dimensional imaging techniques.
Preparation for exam:
Preparation depends on the type of Ultrasound that is being performed, For some scans you may be asked to not eat or drink for 8 to 12 hours before your appointment. For others you may be asked to drink a specific amount of water so that you bladder is full for your scan.
Length of exam:
The length of an Ultrasound exam may vary anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. Please check with the specific location for more details.
After your exam:
A Diversified Radiologist will interpret your images and a report will be sent to your referring physician, within 24 hours of your test.
