KIDS CORNER
BROKEN
BONES
Why
did you have to get a picture taken of your broken bone?
| Children
like to skip, jump, and run. Sometimes kids
fall down and break a bone. Bones make us
tall and they are the strong parts of our bodies where our muscles attach. Without our bones, our muscles
would not have any place to go. |

|
|

|
A reason
to have a picture this is called an X-RAY) taken of your
bone is because the doctor may need to see what area of
your body was injured and how badly the break of your bone
may be. The doctor that looks at your X-RAY is called
a Radiologist. This doctor is trained to
look at pictures of the inside of your body. |
Does
the picture hurt?
| It
may seem very scary to be put close to a big X-ray
machine, but the machine will not hurt you. This
machine makes some noises, but that is all. It is okay to be scared, but you
will not feel anything from it. It is very important to stay still for the person
taking the picture of your broken bone. This person is
called a Technologist. The Technologist is taught to position you so
the Radiologist can understand
the X-RAY pictures of your bone. |
|
What
happens after the X-RAY is taken?
|

|
After
your X-RAY is taken, a Radiologist will look at the picture, also
called a film, and send your doctor a report about your
broken bone. Your doctor can then take care of your bone
the best way possible so it can heal quickly. |
